The town of Rutland in central Vermont is located near the Green Mountains on Otter Creek. Rutland was settled in 1770 and incorporated as a city in 1892 and has since become a major year-round resort area. Bomoseen State Park
Bomoseen State Park is located in the Taconic Mountains on the shores of Vermont's largest lake wholly within the state. Part of the 3576-acre park was a gift to the state for "recreational purposes and as a refuge and sanctuary for all kinds of wildlife." Open mid-May - September (Labor Day). Located in Fair Haven.

Green Mountain National Forest
The Green Mountain National Forest is almost 400,000 acres with diverse landscapes and unique recreation experiences. Open Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm; Saturday in summer. There are 900 miles of trails: hiking and backpacking in the summer, snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter. One trail that is especially popular is the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail and Wayside on Route 125. There are picnic areas, campgrounds, fishing and hunting in season. There are 24 ponds and lakes with 920 miles of streams and rivers, two historical fire towers, and many cultural features such as cellar.

Built in the mid-19th century and has been the home of five generations of the Wilson family.
